Tenses and time

Verb forms help show when something happens.

Use the present for things that happen regularly: I walk every day. Use the past for something that already happened: I walked yesterday.

We can use will with a verb to talk about the future: I will walk tomorrow.

  • Every day, we play outside.

Play is present tense here. It describes something we do regularly.

  • Yesterday, we played outside.

Played is past tense. The playing already happened.

  • Tomorrow, we will play outside.

Will play points to the future. The playing has not happened yet.

Remember: Match the verb form to the time you mean.

This is an introduction to simple present, simple past and future time with will. It is not a complete tense course. Continuous and perfect forms can follow later.

Allow about 10 minutes, with breaks as needed. Listen to the explanation and look at the child’s own sentences. Correct choices alone do not show mastery. Writing is reviewed together, not automatically marked.

A useful starting point: verbs.
